Simpson County Release Records
A Simpson County jail booking ends when the Sheriff's Office closes that custody episode. The closing event might be a true release to the community, but it can also be a transfer to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, another county, federal authorities, immigration custody, a court, or medical custody. Those events all make a person disappear from a current jail list. Only the final booking entry states what the jail recorded. The matching court order explains the legal basis, while a receiving agency's record shows whether custody continued elsewhere.
The phrase “released inmate” therefore needs a clear scope. Bond, recognizance, time served, dismissal, sentence completion, probation, parole, and earned-release supervision do not produce the same record trail. A county bond release points back to the jail and local court. A state-prison movement belongs in MDOC records. Parole and earned-release supervision place a person outside an institution while legal control continues. Complete discharge means the sentence and any related supervision have ended. Keeping those meanings separate prevents a closed booking from being mistaken for freedom from all custody.
- Time served
- Release after the credited custodial time required by the court has been served.
- Transfer
- The county booking closed because another authority received the person. It is not community release.
- Parole
- Conditional community release from a prison sentence under continuing authority.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision that may be imposed without a prison release.
- Discharge
- Completion of the custodial sentence and related legal custody, documented by the responsible agency.
Simpson County Release Routes
The Simpson County Adult Detention Center is the central local custody point. A person who leaves it may go home after bond, a court order, time served, dismissal, or sentence completion. A felony sentence can instead send the person into the statewide MDOC system. A detainer, which is a request by another authority to hold or receive someone, may lead to another county, federal, or immigration custody. The exact release reason and destination should be requested as the jail maintains them rather than translated into a generic label.
| Closing event | What it means | Next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | The local jail episode ends while the court case can remain open. | Jail release entry and bond or court order |
| Time served or sentence end | The court-ordered local custody term has been satisfied. | Release entry, judgment, and credited-time record |
| Dismissal or acquittal | A case disposition may support release if no other hold remains. | Signed court order plus the jail closing entry |
| Transfer to MDOC | The county booking ends, but state custody begins or continues. | Commitment order and MDOC detail record |
| Other-authority transfer | Another jail, federal agency, ICE, court, or medical custodian receives the person. | Destination field and receiving system record |
Question: Does “released” always mean the person went home? No. In a jail system, release may simply mean release from that agency's booking. The destination field is essential.
Note: Ask for both the release reason and destination because either field alone can hide a transfer that kept custody in place.
Fields in Simpson Release Records
A useful Simpson County release record ties a named adult to one booking and a precise closing event. The research did not verify the internal Simpson jail database schema, so the fields below are request targets, not a claim that every item appears on one public form. Full name, date of birth, booking number, and case number help prevent a false match. Admission and closing times establish the custody interval. The release type, releasing authority, destination, and detainer disposition explain what happened at the end.
| Requested field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Booked name and identifiers | Connects the entry to the correct person and court case. |
| Booking date and time | Marks the start of the Simpson County custody episode. |
| Charges and arresting agency | Identifies the allegation and likely court trail, not a final disposition. |
| Release date and time | Shows when the jail recorded the booking as closed. |
| Release reason or type | Preserves the sheriff's exact bond, court, sentence, or transfer wording. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Distinguishes community release from continued custody elsewhere. |
| Bond and detainer fields | Shows whether a financial condition or another authority affected release. |
| Booking photograph | Connects an intake image with that booking, subject to disclosure limits. |
Charges in the booking record remain allegations unless the court later enters a conviction. Simpson County Circuit Court records can show a plea, dismissal, acquittal, amended charge, judgment, or sentence. The jail record and final order answer different questions and should be read together. An MDOC “Tentative Release Date” is also different: it forecasts an institutional movement and does not document an event that has already occurred.
Request Simpson County Release Records
No county-specific online request form, copy schedule, records-office hours, or release archive was verified. A narrow written request can be sent to Sheriff Paul Mullins by email or fax after confirming the preferred delivery route with administration. Ask for an existing booking-and-release sheet, jail-register entry, or equivalent final custody record. Give enough identifiers and a date range. Request electronic copies, segregable nonexempt material, and a cost estimate before work exceeds a chosen limit.
- Collect the full booked name, date of birth, booking number if known, case number, and the likely booking and release range.
- Describe the existing record and list the closing time, exact release reason, authority, destination, detainer status, and photograph fields sought.
- Send the request to the Simpson County Sheriff's Office and keep proof of delivery.
- Ask the office to cite any exemption for a withheld field and provide all parts that can legally be separated.
- Pair the response with the operative Justice, municipal, Circuit, or County Court order.

The sheriff's retention period for jail registers, completed bookings, and photos was not published. Ask which schedule applies and whether an older file moved to an archive. Sealing and expungement can limit public access, but release by itself does not erase a record. A person needs an actual court order under the applicable process before treating a case as expunged.
Mississippi Law on Simpson Release Records
The Mississippi Public Records Act supplies the general access framework. Under the researched provisions, an agency without an adopted procedure has a one-working-day access rule. An adopted procedure cannot ordinarily push production or denial past seven working days. If production cannot occur then, the office must give a written reason and set a date, ordinarily within fourteen working days absent agreement. These periods govern a records response, not instant telephone confirmation of a release.
Mississippi law permits exemptions for investigative, victim-sensitive, juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, safety, and certain corrections or supervision information. The statewide law does not set one Simpson sheriff copy price. It also does not promise that every booking photograph must be released. The arrest-photo statute supports the likely creation of photos in covered cases when equipment is available, but the Public Records Act and agency policy still control disclosure.
Note: A public-record deadline concerns production or denial; it does not turn a database entry or alert into a certified release record.
Courts Behind Simpson Release Records
The arresting agency points toward the first court trail. Sheriff's Office, Magee Police, and Mendenhall Police arrests may enter different local dockets. Justice Court handles misdemeanors, traffic matters, and early felony proceedings. Felony dispositions and other Circuit or County Court records are kept through the Simpson County Circuit Clerk. Municipal matters can begin in the arresting city's court. Identify both the agency and the case number before requesting a final order.
The Simpson Circuit Court MEC information page provides the local electronic-court access point. Public PAMEC access requires registration and currently states an annual fee, and some documents remain restricted. An online miss should lead to the clerk rather than a claim that no case exists.
The court screen identifies where a disposition may persist after a person has left a live jail view. Obtain the signed dismissal, bond, sentencing, commitment, amended, revocation, or expungement order that fits the case, then reconcile its date with the physical jail closing event.
Find Simpson County Released Inmates
A reliable Simpson County released inmate search branches by custody system. Start with the last known custodian and do not enter the same name into unrelated portals without a reason. Record full name, aliases, date of birth, agency number, case number, and the approximate event range. A current jail roster, if one becomes available, would answer who remains booked. The Simpson release record answers how that booking ended. State, federal, and immigration systems answer only for their own custody.
- Call the sheriff and ask whether the booking closed, at what time, for what reason, and to which destination.
- Request the final booking-and-release entry when telephone staff cannot provide the needed public detail.
- Check the proper local court for the legal order and every case or hold that could affect departure.
- If the person went to state custody, search MDOC by name or MDOC number and compare identifiers, location, and sentence fields.
- Use SAVIN or VINELink for timely participating-agency status notices, then verify the alert with its source.
- Use BOP or ICE only when a federal or immigration transfer is documented.
The county has no verified official 24-hour feed. A date-bounded sheriff request is the local substitute, and the exact approach is covered on the Simpson County jail releases page. That request should specify beginning and ending timestamps rather than the loose word “today.”
MDOC Search for Simpson Releases
Use the official MDOC inmate search after the sheriff or court identifies a state commitment, or when a sentenced state prisoner is the subject. Search by first and last name or MDOC number. Open the likely detail record and compare date of birth and descriptive identifiers. Simpson as the county of conviction connects the sentence to a Simpson court; it does not mean the person is housed in Simpson County.
| MDOC field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name and MDOC number | Primary state-system identity fields for matching and later records requests. |
| Entry date | When the state custody record began for the displayed commitment. |
| Location and change date | Current recorded unit and the date of its latest movement update. |
| Sentence entries | Offense, term, sentence date, and county of conviction information. |
| Tentative Release Date | A computed planning date, not proof that release occurred. |
The official Mississippi Department of Corrections search interface shows the correct state channel for a Simpson County transfer to MDOC.
The form supports identity matching, but the public view was not verified as a complete archive of every discharged person. If the result is missing or unclear, request the discharge certificate, time-computation summary, and custody-location history from MDOC.
Simpson County Recent Release Records
No official Simpson County, Mississippi current roster, recent-release archive, sheriff app, or rolling release page was verified. The official sheriff page supplies contacts but no public lookup. The Mississippi Jail Records archive maintained through university legal-clinic requests contains term-based Simpson jail snapshots. Its older list includes booked name, birth date, booking date, days held, charge, classification, and monetary fields, but no release date, reason, destination, rolling window, or photograph.
That archive is useful historical evidence, not a live release list. Absence from a later snapshot cannot distinguish bond, time served, sentence completion, transfer, death, or a cutoff in the data supplied. For a real recent-release window, request completed bookings with release timestamps between exact dates and times, plus booked name or number, exact release type, and transfer destination. Use SAVIN in parallel for a fast notification and the local court for the authorizing order.
New Way After Simpson Release
The MDOC directory lists New Way Transitional Facilities #1 in Mendenhall as transitional housing. It is not the Simpson County jail, and a directory entry does not show that a named person lives there. A transition from prison to structured housing can occur while parole, earned-release supervision, or another state status remains active.
The official listing confirms the facility category and location, not any resident's legal status. Check the separate MDOC parolee search, contact the Mendenhall Probation and Parole Office for proper routing, and request a discharge certificate or Board action when full legal completion matters. Institutional release, transitional placement, community supervision, and discharge remain four distinct events.
Simpson Release Alerts and Federal Records
Mississippi SAVIN, powered by VINE, can provide custody and status notifications from MDOC and participating county jails. Search the Mississippi VINELink interface for the correct person, note the contributing agency and status date, and register for available release or custody-change events. A rapid move can create more than one alert. Mississippi's Registration Link may carry a registration forward when a county felony offender transfers into MDOC or other custody. An alert is timely notice, but the jail or MDOC record remains the source for formal confirmation.
Federal channels are separate. The BOP Inmate Locator can show a release date, “Released,” or “Not in BOP Custody” for federal records. That wording does not exclude another authority's custody or federal supervision.
The locator is relevant only to BOP records. ICE's locator can include people currently held or released from ICE within a recent limited window, while the U.S. Marshals Service has no matching public release locator. A Simpson jail exit to an ICE or federal detainer should first be recorded as a transfer, then followed into the receiving system.
Avoid the Wrong Simpson Release Roster
Simpson County, Kentucky creates a distinctive and serious search problem. Its polished detention website often appears in searches intended for Mississippi and offers current-inmate, bond, fee, and program information that does not apply here. Check every result for state, location, and telephone code. Franklin and a 270 number identify Kentucky. The Mississippi Sheriff's Office is in Mendenhall and uses the 601 area code.
Do not import a Kentucky roster result, bond practice, release time, fee, photograph, or detention policy into a Simpson County, Mississippi search. Commercial pages can repeat the same error or mix an old address with unsupported capacity claims. The county's current comprehensive plan and the official sheriff contact are the local anchors. This one check prevents a confident but false conclusion about who is booked or released.
Note: Confirm “Mississippi,” “Mendenhall,” and a 601 telephone number before treating any Simpson County jail result as local evidence.
Old Simpson Release Facility Listings
Stale results may also name a Simpson Technical Violation Center or Community Work Center. MDOC reported Simpson technical-violation operations moved to Delta Correctional Facility in 2018. A Simpson Community Work Center is absent from the current MDOC facility directory. Neither belongs in the present Simpson facility list or should be treated as a current release destination.
Historical records may still use those names, so the old references should not simply be erased from interpretation. Check the date of the source and follow the person's current MDOC number into today's state records. A historic facility label can explain an old movement. It cannot confirm a current placement, release, or discharge.
Released or Still in Custody
Each official system answers a limited question. The best source is the one responsible for the custody event, sentence, or supervision status being checked. When official sources conflict, look for a later order, delayed data entry, corrected jail credit, or movement into another system. Do not merge people based only on a similar name or charge.
| Source | Best use | What it cannot prove alone |
|---|---|---|
| Simpson jail record | Booking closure, release time, reason, and destination | Later state, federal, or immigration release |
| Local court record | Bond, dismissal, sentence, commitment, or revocation authority | The exact moment the jail processed departure |
| MDOC detail | State location, sentences, and tentative date | Guaranteed or completed release |
| MDOC parolee search | Current recorded parole status | Every form of probation, supervision, or discharge |
| VINELink | Participating-agency custody changes and alerts | A certified historical release record |
| BOP or ICE locator | Status within that federal custody system | Freedom from every other authority |
Simpson County Release Facilities
The current Facility Map contains two very different places. The Simpson County Adult Detention Center is the Sheriff's Office county jail. Its release record must separate return to the community from transfer. New Way Transitional Facilities #1 is MDOC-listed transitional housing, not a booking jail. A resident may still be on state supervision, so status belongs in MDOC, parole, and discharge records.
- Simpson County Adult Detention Center: verify the final county booking entry, court order, and any receiving agency.
- New Way Transitional Facilities #1: verify institutional release, supervision, and eventual discharge through MDOC channels.
The county plan says the jail was built in 2011 with 160 beds and separately describes a trustee facility. Those facts identify the local custody setting, not a current population or public roster. The same plan says Simpson County has no juvenile facility and leases juvenile beds elsewhere as needed. Juvenile records are restricted and do not belong in these adult release paths.
